Anthony Edward Drozd of Middletown was killed around 7:45 a.m. Thursday during the crash that closed I-95 for around seven hours, said Connecticut State Police.
According to police, the crash occurred when Drozd was traveling in the right lane of three, just ahead of another vehicle driven by Susan Jackson of Greenwich when the bed of his 27,600-pound truck became raised or was unintentionally left in the raised position.
Seeing the raised bed, Jackson changed lanes to get out of the way as the two vehicles approached the Quarry Road overpass sign, state police said.
State police said as she was beginning to change lanes, the dump body collided with the overhead DOT sign, causing the truck to roll on its side, ejecting Drozd.
After hitting the sign the truck body broke free and twisted around and slammed into the vehicle driven by Jackson sending her vehicle into the left lane and median.
Drozd was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital where he died from his injuries. Jackson, who was also transported to the hospital, received minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
